Laura Neil is a Principal of Maurice Blackburn and leads the
North Queensland operations.
She is a Queensland Law Society accredited specialist and has
spent her legal career providing access to justice for her
clients.
Laura has been involved in several cases which have resulted in
a change in the law, achieving fantastic results not only for her
clients, but benefiting the whole community. Most recently,
Laura and the Cairns team worked tirelessly for the families left
behind after the Malu Sara tragedy. This is a
particularly significant issue for Indigenous and Torres Strait
Islander people.
In 2009 Laura was a finalist in the Regional Queensland Woman
Lawyer of the Year.
Laura is a Queensland Branch Committee member and former
Queensland Director of the Australian Lawyers Alliance which is an
association dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights and
freedoms of individuals. She is also a member of the North
Queensland and Far North Queensland District Law Associations and
the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland and is part of the
firm's Women's Law Section.
Laura graduated from James Cook University of North Queensland
in 1994 and is admitted to practice in Queensland and the High
Court of Australia. Laura loves working in Cairns and is the mother of
two daughters.
